George Hutchinson

George Hutchinson, known as the last official crier of the United States Supreme Court, died in June 2026 at the age of 102. His oral history, conducted in 2016, explores his childhood growing up in the Stanton Park area with memories of the neighborhood beginning in the 1920s.

He also reminisces about his time as a page at the Supreme Court, from wearing knickers, to and scary tunnels, and having to go across town to night school. He recounts how he went on to serve in the Supreme Court library and Marshal's Office. His stories of schools, movies, ice cream parlors, and trolleys and descriptions of historical events such as the return of Lindbergh and Bonus Marchers, enriches our understanding of the neighborhood from the 1920s onward.
